5 Rules for Creating the Perfect LinkedIn Resume

Most recruiters spend less than 2 minutes reviewing your resume. With the rise of job search platforms such as LinkedIn which has over 100 million users alone in the United States, it's now more important than ever that your digital resume stands out. How do you create a digital resume that does not get ignored? Follow these top 5 rules to create the perfect LinkedIn resume that every recruiter would want to read.

1. THE LESS TEXT THE BETTER

Recruiters prefer to scan your LinkedIn resume so make it easier for them to do that. Use bullet points, bold text you want to stand out & use numbers (See Rule #4 ). Insert subheadings to break up your text as well.

2. USE A RELEVANT, KEYWORD-RICH HEADLINE

Make sure to include keywords in your LinkedIn headline (the description right below your name). This will help your resume rise to the top in LinkedIn search results so recruiters are more likely to click on your profile first. For example, if you look at my LinkedIn profile, you will notice that I use several industry-relevant keywords in my headline.

3. CREATE AN EYE-CATCHING SUMMARY

Your summary is another way you can stand out to recruiters. This section of your resume is where you can outline your accomplishments as well as describe your personal brand. Your summary should answer: What makes you stand out from your peers?  Recruiters want to see more than text in your summary though. Include rich media that highlight your best work such as presentations, videos & blog posts.

4. QUANTIFY EVERYTHING

Numbers stand out more than text on a resume. Use numbers such as dollar amounts and percentages to quantify your accomplishments.

5. MAKE A CUSTOM LINKEDIN URL

Take advantage of LinkedIn's custom URL generator for your profile page. An example of a custom LinkedIn URL is http://www.linkedin.com/in/alexcameronconsulting.
